New Era as EFWG Launched
March 27, 2024Financial technology (Fintech) is reshaping the financial industry across the globe. It is advancing how customers access and use financial services and products.
The Central Bank of Eswatini (CBE), Financial Services Regulatory Authority (FSRA), Eswatini Communications Commission (ESCCOM), the Centre for Financial Inclusion (CFI) and the University of Eswatini (UNESWA) have established a fintech working group to actively advance financial innovation in Eswatini.
The EFWG will assist regulators to shed light on the regulatory landscape, provide a safe space for experimentation and advance innovation. Speaking during the launch held at Royal Swazi, the CBE Governor who was represented by the Deputy Governor, Felicia Dlamini-Kunene highlighted that through digital finance solutions governments were able to provide financial relief to millions of individuals and businesses during the COVID-19 pandemic. “Our government, for example, has been able to provide grants for bo gogo through mobile money,” he said.

Through membership in the EFWG, the five partners pledged to continue their support to create an enabling environment for fintech innovations in the country to maximize inclusion and sustainable development.
